Back when I was selling the self-published comic book of Hereville, folks sometimes paid extra for their comic in order to have me do a drawing on their title page. (A similar offer is now available for folks who preorder the hardcover book). Sometimes these sketches would be requests, other times I’d just choose a theme myself.
You can see a whole bunch of Hereville title page sketches here on Flickr. And I’ve just now added two more to the set:

The second sketch is below the fold.

You know, I hate to seem ungrateful — but I’m just SO DAMN GOOD at it, I can’t help myself. Anyway,
Well, maybe. Yes, you’ve added two more. But the two you added were already on Flickr. Now they appear twice. Not complaining, mind you. But there it is.
And if you’re going to pick some sketches to include twice, I’m not sure I’d pick these. Oh, I like the shading and all; the sky’s nice. But Mirka’s kinda static, and not in any way that shows personality. In contrast, I really love Mirka in the overstuffed chair. The positioning of her arms and legs suggests sqirmy motion; it screams, “I’m 11!”
I’m curious if you’ve noted any change in your sketches over time? Do you like earlier ones better than later ones, for example, or vise versa?
Aaaaaaaaargh!
You’re right, I totally repeated myself! Grrrr.
I more-or-less like the more recent sketches better. There are some exceptions, though.
I have to disagree with NR; the sketches you’ve spotlighted here are two of my favorites. Although it’s difficult for me to define why I like them, especially late at night, beyond “ZOMG CUTE.” I do think the pensive stance of #2 reflects personality, albeit not in any detailed way, and peeking out from behind a tree is “playful” or something.
This sketch would probably be my favorite of all, given how dynamic the scene is, if her face didn’t look so blank — I get that Mirka’s concentrating, but it just looks weird, as if she’s hypnotized or something. I’d say furrow her brows, but, heh, she doesn’t have any. I dunno.
That sketch is probably my favorite, Skyborne. And I agree, it would be better if her face had been more expressive.
