First drawing of the troll for Hereville book 2

The troll is a very fun character to ink. Especially that huge long curve under his belly; getting that line right, when I can get it right, is loads of fun. (Yes, this is what I find fun).

This shows both the rough sketch of the character on the page, and the completed drawing. (Jake hasn’t colored it yet, obviously).

Oh, wow — it’s the troll!

I hadn’t really thought about meeting the troll again — at least, not right away. I imagined that Mirka would largely leave the old creatures behind when she goes on to confront new ones. But then, the troll is the Keeper of the Sword, so it’s logical that we’d meet him again, and soon.

And he’s such a fun character! Honestly, somehow the prior drawings having given me much of a jolt. (I’m strangely put off by the idea that characters in a fantasy would change clothes. Did hobbits change clothes? I’m damn sure they never changed shoes…!) But I’m oddly jazzed to see Troll-y again.

(Does Troll-y have a name? I’m trying out “Troll-y,” but I don’t think I’m going to stick with it.)

A thought: Bags with straps hang well on shoulders — that is, a more-or-less horizontal part of the anatomy. Troll-y is blessed with four horizontal shoulders. Why hang the bag from the front appendage which lacks a horizontal component? You’re showing your human bias again, Amp.
