{"id":1107,"date":"2004-09-26T04:22:12","date_gmt":"2004-09-26T12:22:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.amptoons.com\/blog\/archives\/2004\/09\/26\/gop-losing-get-out-the-vote-battle\/"},"modified":"2004-09-26T04:22:12","modified_gmt":"2004-09-26T12:22:12","slug":"gop-losing-get-out-the-vote-battle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/amptoons.com\/blog\/?p=1107","title":{"rendered":"GOP losing &quot;get out the vote&quot; battle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s some good news: According to<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2004\/09\/26\/politics\/campaign\/26vote.html?ex=1253851200&#038;en=950fb0a974abb588&#038;ei=5090&#038;partner=rssuserland\"> a <i>New York Times <\/i>study<\/a>, Democrats in the swing states of Ohio and Florida have been far more successful than Republicans in registering new voters.<\/p>\n<div class=\"snip\">A sweeping voter registration campaign in heavily Democratic areas has added tens of thousands of new voters to the rolls in the swing states of Ohio and Florida, a surge that has far exceeded the efforts of Republicans in both states, a review of registration data shows.<\/p>\n<p>The analysis by The New York Times of county-by-county data shows that in Democratic areas of Ohio &#8211; primarily low-income and minority neighborhoods &#8211; new registrations since January have risen 250 percent over the same period in 2000. In comparison, new registrations have increased just 25 percent in Republican areas. A similar pattern is apparent in Florida: in the strongest Democratic areas, the pace of new registration is 60 percent higher than in 2000, while it has risen just 12 percent in the heaviest Republican areas.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>New voters are undercounted in &#8220;likely voter&#8221; polls &#8211; so it may be that Kerry is actually doing much better in the swing states than recent polls have indicated.
