{"id":127,"date":"2003-05-20T12:03:03","date_gmt":"2003-05-20T20:03:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.amptoons.com\/blog\/archives\/2003\/05\/20\/secondhand-smoke-not-so-fast\/"},"modified":"2003-05-20T12:03:03","modified_gmt":"2003-05-20T20:03:03","slug":"secondhand-smoke-not-so-fast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/amptoons.com\/blog\/?p=127","title":{"rendered":"Secondhand smoke: not so fast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the comments to my previous post, Alas reader Gar Lipow helpfully provided a link to the comments section of the <a href=\"http:\/\/bmj.com\/cgi\/eletters\/326\/7398\/1057#32297\">British Medical Journal<\/a>, where there are many substantial criticisms of the study I mentioned. Gar also pointed out the AMA&#8217;s very back-of-the-hand <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pmdocs.com\/getimg.asp?pgno=0&#038;start=0&#038;docid=2065122062\">rejection <\/a>of the same study (which is interesting more for how openly obnoxious it is than for providing any actual critique of the study).<\/p>\n<p>Also, the study was funded by the tobacco industry, which does raise reasonable skepticism.<\/p>\n<p>So, unfortunately, secondhand smoke may be harmful after all. Oh, well. On the bright side, I can go back to feeling morally superior to my smoking housemates (always a silver lining), who are killing me &#8211; <i>KILLING ME!<\/i> &#8211; with their selfish habits (choke! gasp! can&#8217;t breathe&#8230; mustn&#8217;t&#8230; pass&#8230; out&#8230;), and who also are making a mess on the floor near the coffee pot. Darn them smokers!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll be interested to see what <a href=\"http:\/\/acdouglas.com\/\">A.C.
