Kiernan\u2019s uncommonly beautiful Lovecraftian \u201cTidal Forces.\u201d Even familiar tropes are handled elegantly by top talents like Michael Swanwick (whose \u201cThe Man in Grey\u201d explores the idea that human reality is controlled by others), Jeffrey Ford (playing with doppelg\u00e4ngers in \u201cThe Double of My Double Is Not My Double\u201d), and Eileen Gunn (nicely twisting time travel and paradox themes in \u201cThought Experiment\u201d), as well as relative newcomers like Peter M. Ball (whose \u201cDying Young\u201d is a surprisingly fresh postapocalyptic western). Less successful contributions from Gwyneth Jones and Emma Bull are still entertaining but outshone by their companions. Strahan continues to raise the bar for original genre anthology series.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s some big names in that book &#8212; but nonetheless Mandolin&#8217;s story was picked out as the best by <em>Publisher&#8217;s Weekly<\/em>. Pretty awesome!<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of stuff like that, I mentioned earlier today that Rachel is listed for <em>three separate items<\/em> on <a href=\"http:\/\/locusmag.com\/Magazine\/2011\/Issue02_PollAndSurvey.html\">the annual Locus poll<\/a>.
