{"id":1512,"date":"2005-04-27T09:51:49","date_gmt":"2005-04-27T16:51:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.amptoons.com\/blog\/archives\/2005\/04\/27\/republican-governor-vetoes-rape-victims-rights-bill\/"},"modified":"2005-04-27T09:51:49","modified_gmt":"2005-04-27T16:51:49","slug":"republican-governor-vetoes-rape-victims-rights-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/amptoons.com\/blog\/?p=1512","title":{"rendered":"Republican Governor Vetoes Rape Victims Rights Bill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m late posting this story, but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amptoons.com\/blog\/archives\/2005\/04\/27\/a-snarky-article-on-why-the-pro-lifers-should-not-debate-over-the-morning-after-pill-or-pharmacists-rights\/\">Pseudo-Adrianne&#8217;s post<\/a> earlier today reminded me of it.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Colorado Governor Bill Owens <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/Stories\/0,1413,36~61~2800729,00.html\">vetoed a bill<\/a> that would have required hospitals to tell rape victims about emergency contraception.<\/p>\n<p>The bill would not have required hospitals to perform abortions; the bill would not have required hospitals to dispense drugs they found morally objectionable; the bill would have given health care professionals the right to refuse to participate in procedures they found morally objectionable. The bill would <em>only <\/em>have required hospitals to let rape victims know that the option <em>exists<\/em>, so that rape victims would have the freedom to decide for themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Amazingly, Governor Owens had the gall to claim that he vetoed this bill to protect people being &#8220;coerced by government to engage in activities&#8221; they don&#8217;t approve of.<\/p>\n<p>The Moral of the Story: When a pharmacist is &#8220;coerced&#8221; into doing his job by letting people know of their options, that&#8217;s facism. But when rapists and right-wing zealot hospitals collaborate to coerce women into unwanted pregnancies, that&#8217;s cool.<\/p>\n<p>They really don&#8217;t think of women as anything but incubation machines, do they?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m late posting this story, but Pseudo-Adrianne&#8217;s post earlier today reminded me of it.
