The issue is<strong> government-enforced childbirth<\/strong>. Right-wingers want government-enforced childbirth; lefties don&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>The issue is not whether we favor or oppose abortion. Plenty of people who are personally opposed to abortion are still pro-choice. You can&#8217;t tell the difference between pro-choicers and pro-lifers by asking, &#8220;do you favor abortion?&#8221; You can tell the difference by asking, &#8220;should there be government-enforced childbirth for pregnant women?&#8221; Government-enforced childbirth is the defining issue; wanting government-enforced childbirth, not wanting abortion, is the difference between the opposition and us.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For all the talk about &#8220;reframing&#8221; the abortion debate, the reframing I&#8217;d like to see never seems to come up.
