Following the decision, the head of the county\u2019s Republican Party said he plans to challenge the voter registrations of more students at the historically black university ahead of upcoming elections.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Pasquotank County used to be covered by preclearance regulations, before the Supreme Court&#8217;s <em>Shelby <\/em>decision hollowed the Voting Rights Act.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, even without preclearance, the Supreme Court has said that such acts by the government are unconstitutional. (This was in 1979, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Symm_v._United_States\">in yet another case<\/a> in which Republicans just <em>happened <\/em>to single out a historically Black university for disenfranchisement.)
