There&#8217;s a lot that Culhane wrote that I&#8217;m kicking myself for not thinking of in <a href=\"https:\/\/amptoons.com\/blog\/2013\/11\/18\/contra-jon-rauch-enda-and-marriage-equality-are-different-aspects-of-the-same-fight\/\">my post<\/a>, especially this observation:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It\u2019s telling, too, that Rauch uses the old-school term <em>gay rights<\/em> to describe the movement, rather than the generally accepted <em>LGBT <\/em>(or <em>LGBTQ<\/em>). This choice isn\u2019t just rhetorical. Doing so allows him to efface the transgendered community completely. (In fact, the piece contains not one instance of the terms <em>transgendered <\/em>or <em>gender identity<\/em>.) But these are often the people in greatest need of workplace protection, in order for them to be able to live openly and with respect. He can\u2019t identify with gays and lesbians who might actually be fired, and he can\u2019t even <em>name <\/em>transgendered people who might be.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Be sure to read John Culhane&#8217;s superb response to Jonathan Rauch&#8217;s anti-ENDA Time piece.
