{"id":18487,"date":"2014-03-18T03:33:38","date_gmt":"2014-03-18T10:33:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/amptoons.com\/blog\/?p=18487"},"modified":"2014-03-18T03:33:58","modified_gmt":"2014-03-18T10:33:58","slug":"hereville-wins-an-oregon-book-award-and-i-am-surprised","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/amptoons.com\/blog\/?p=18487","title":{"rendered":"Hereville Wins An Oregon Book Award And I Am Surprised"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I attended the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/books\/index.ssf\/2014\/03\/oregon_book_awards_ursula_k_le.html\">Oregon Book Awards<\/a> tonight with my friend <a href=\"http:\/\/frenchtoastcomix.com\/\">Becky Hawkins<\/a>; Hereville: How Mirka Met a Meteorite was nominated for the &#8220;Graphic Literature&#8221; category, but had no chance of winning, since the competition included Joe Sacco and Craig Thompson, both of whom are 600-pound gorillas of cartooning awards (and deservedly so). And also nominated was my pal Shannon Wheeler, who is a friggin&#8217; <em>New Yorker<\/em> cartoonist, and an award-winning gorilla himself, albeit perhaps more of a 450-pound gorilla.<\/p>\n<p>So I had NO chance.<\/p>\n<p>And then <em>I WON!!!!!!!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/amptoons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/oregon-book-award.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/amptoons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/oregon-book-award-550x504.jpg\" alt=\"oregon-book-award\" width=\"550\" height=\"504\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-18488\" srcset=\"https:\/\/amptoons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/oregon-book-award-550x504.jpg 550w, https:\/\/amptoons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/oregon-book-award-940x861.jpg 940w, https:\/\/amptoons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/oregon-book-award.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t possibly describe how surprised I was. (And thrilled. And honored.)<\/p>\n<p>BTW, Joe Sacco wasn&#8217;t there tonight, but Craig Thompson greeted me afterwards with a big hug and congratulated me. (I had only met him once before, but he seems very nice).
