I’m normally thrilled to see supportive articles in mainstream media opposing anti-fat bigotry, but this is an exception. As I’ve pointed out before<\/a>, virtually everything <\/em>has been called “the last acceptable prejudice” by someone.<\/p>\n

Framing anti-fat prejudice as “the last” prejudice is just fucking wrong, and let me count the ways:<\/p>\n

1) It implicitly denies all the other prejudices that are, yes, still going on and denied, dismissed, minimized or otherwise considered acceptable. <\/p>\n

2) It epitomizes Oppression Olympics.<\/p>\n

3) It makes us hypocritical when we object to those who minimize discrimination against fat people. If it’s not okay for them to do to us, it shouldn’t be okay for us to do it to other groups.<\/p>\n
