I don&#8217;t think there&#8217;s any more essential issue in the world right now. (And yet, I&#8217;ve barely ever written about it. I guess I don&#8217;t feel I have much to say, beyond impotent expressions of horror). Jenn at Reappropriate, an asian american feminist, discusses auditioning for a production of <em>The Vagina Monologues<\/em> and being cast in a part solely for her race.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/shakespearessister.blogspot.com\/2005\/12\/woe-is-we-more-on-education.html\"><strong>Shakespeare&#8217;s Sister on The Boy Crisis in Education<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nContrary to what I argued in recent posts, a USA Today article says that now it&#8217;s middle-class white boys who are having the most dramatic fall-off in college attendance. I plan to research the data more in the new year. Shakespeare&#8217;s Sister blames it on the rising tide of anti-intellectualism among right-wing Americans, and also on the fact that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amptoons.com\/blog\/archives\/2005\/12\/09\/the-boy-crisis-in-education\/\">white men with high school degrees earn almost as much as white women with college degrees<\/a>. <em>(Edited to correct factual error.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.feministe.us\/blog\/archives\/2005\/12\/29\/random-incomplete-thoughts-on-family-expectations-and-education\/#more-2017\"><strong>Super-Excellent Post About Family, Expectations and Education<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"snip\">Last Saturday, Johnson defied the naysayers and graduated from the University of Michigan with a master&#8217;s degree in social work. Note the bit in Monique&#8217;s article where she seemingly regrets that censoring student newspapers isn&#8217;t politically viable. Damn those anti-censorship fanatics!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.redpolka.org\/blog\/archives\/001721.html\"><strong>Book Review: <em>Taking Up Space<\/em><\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nA review of <em>Taking Up Space<\/em>, the new book by fat activist, sociologist and blogger Patty Thomas, aka <a href=\"http:\/\/fattypatties.blogspot.com\/\">Fattypatties<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/fattypatties.blogspot.com\/\"><strong>Patty Thomas on &#8220;The Victim Mentality&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"snip\">I hate hearing something like &#8220;victim mentality&#8221;\u009d because it cuts off all productive discussion.
