I’ve heard a constant refrain lately \u2013 at work, on TV, on the internet \u2013 from some of my black brethren about Barack Obama.<\/p>\n

He doesn’t need to “lecture black people” about personal responsibility.<\/em><\/p>\n

He should be mindful of the tone he uses when he speaks to us.<\/em><\/p>\n

He’s just saying what racist white people want to hear.<\/em><\/p>\n

He sacrifices black people to score points with whites and other non-blacks.<\/em><\/p>\n

I was offended by his criticism of black people.<\/em><\/p>\n

What gives him the right to call anybody out about anything?<\/em><\/p>\n

Since he doesn’t have anything good to say about black people he shouldn’t say anything at all.<\/em><\/p>\n

What do we want from this man?<\/p>\n

Over the next five days, the blog Brown Man Thinking Hard<\/strong><\/a> presents “What Do We Want?<\/a>” which will explore some of the issues that underlie this intraracial discord within black America.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
