{"id":4713,"date":"2008-08-26T10:32:24","date_gmt":"2008-08-26T17:52:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.amptoons.com\/blog\/archives\/2008\/08\/26\/i-love-big-brother\/"},"modified":"2008-08-26T10:32:24","modified_gmt":"2008-08-26T17:52:12","slug":"i-love-big-brother","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/amptoons.com\/blog\/?p=4713","title":{"rendered":"I Love Big Brother"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/moderateleft.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/ingsoc.gif\" title=\"ingsoc.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/moderateleft.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/ingsoc.thumbnail.gif\" alt=\"ingsoc.gif\" align=\"right\" hspace=\"3\" \/><\/a>You&#8217;ve <a href=\"http:\/\/tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2008\/08\/whoops_top_republican_admits_t.php\" target=\"_blank\">got to love the Republican Party<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[A] leading Republican appears to have just inadvertently admitted that the GOP&#8217;s spin machine set up to counter Barack Obama during the convention is a propaganda machine spewing nothing but lies.<\/p>\n<p>The GOPer in question is Colorado GOP chairman Dick Wadhams, who accidentally made the admission when describing the GOP&#8217;s war room in Denver set up to hammer Obama during convention week.<\/p>\n<p>Wadhams <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politicswest.com\/28818\/republicans_set_war_room_near_downtown\">described<\/a> the GOP&#8217;s outfit thusly to the Denver Post: &#8220;Just consider this the Ministry of Truth.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Well, yes, that <em>is<\/em> an appropriate name for it. After all, <a href=\"http:\/\/tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2008\/08\/whoops_top_republican_admits_t.php\" target=\"_blank\">as Eric Kleefield notes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Um, as anybody who has ever read George Orwell knows, the Ministry of Truth exists to disseminate <em>false<\/em> propaganda about how great the ruling regime is, continuously rewriting both history and the present-day facts in order to maintain total control over the population.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Ministry of Peace concerns itself with war, the Ministry of Truth with lies, the Ministry of Love with torture and the Ministry of Plenty with starvation,&#8221; Orwell wrote. &#8220;These contradictions are not accidental, nor do they result from ordinary hypocrisy; they are deliberate exercises in <em>doublethink<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Which is, of course, a perfect metaphor for today&#8217;s Republican Party. War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery.
