Actually, I take that back; there are plenty of good bastards out there. Limbaugh\u2019s just pure evil<\/a>:<\/p>\n

On the September 22 broadcast of his syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh baselessly claimed that Sen. Barack Obama is \u201cnot black,\u201d and went on to ask: \u201cDo you know he has not one shred of African-American blood?\u201d Limbaugh continued: \u201cHe\u2019s Arab. You know, he\u2019s from Africa. He\u2019s from Arab parts of Africa. \u2026 [H]e\u2019s not African-American. The last thing that he is is African-American.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

There\u2019s so much wrong with this.<\/p>\n

  1. There\u2019s very little of Africa that can be termed \u201cArab.\u201d Egypt is really the only part that can be said about, and even that\u2019s debatable \u2014 I\u2019ll only give it to Limbaugh based on its abortive attempt at forming the United Arab Republic. Maybe Libya. Any further west and you\u2019re into the Maghreb, which is no more \u201cArab\u201d than Iran. Which, doubtless, Rush thinks is Arab.<\/li>\n
  2. If one is charitable, one assumes Limbaugh is conflating \u201cMuslim\u201d with \u201cArab.\u201d And it\u2019s true, most of North Africa is ethnically and historically distinct from Sub-Saharan Africa. The Muslim part of Africa covers a wide territory, from Morocco and Mauritania in the west to the northern parts of Sudan.<\/li>\n
  3. That said, Barack Obama\u2019s dad was from Kenya. Kenya is not in North Africa.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    See? Anything not in the orange there is not \u201cthe Arab parts of Africa,\u201d not in any way, shape, or form. That doesn\u2019t mean there are no Muslims outside of North Africa \u2014 there are Muslims all over the world. But historical and geneological ties to Subsaharan Africa are what we think of when we think of \u201cBlack\u201d in American society. Barack Obama, Sr., was undoubtedly from Subsaharan Africa, as Kenya is no more in the Arab part of Africa than Spain.<\/p>\n

    Of course, Rush is just showing his amazing post-racialism here, days after accusing Obama of using \u201csegregationist\u201d tactics in his bid to be America\u2019s first African-American president. That Obama is undoubtedly the literal embodiment of that phrase, with a father born in Africa and a mother born in America, is evidently no reason for Limbaugh not to try to find another way to insinuate that Obama is really a secret undercover Muslim.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
