{"id":5052,"date":"2008-10-23T10:24:30","date_gmt":"2008-10-23T17:44:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.amptoons.com\/blog\/?p=5052"},"modified":"2008-10-23T10:24:30","modified_gmt":"2008-10-23T17:44:18","slug":"jeff-says-fail-to-girls-say-yes-to-boys-who-say-obama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/amptoons.com\/blog\/?p=5052","title":{"rendered":"Jeff Says &#039;Fail&#039; to &#039;Girls Say Yes to Boys Who Say Obama&#039;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"gsy.jpg\" href=\"http:\/\/moderateleft.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/gsy.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--post text with the read more link--><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><a title=\"gsy.jpg\" href=\"http:\/\/moderateleft.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/gsy.jpg\"><\/a>Over at Broadsheet, Judy Berman takes a look at a pro-bama poster with a theme that goes back approximately forever: boys, vote like the girls want you to, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/mwt\/broadsheet\/2008\/10\/23\/girls_say_yes\/index.html\">you\u2019re totally gonna get laid<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"gsy.jpg\" href=\"http:\/\/moderateleft.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/gsy.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/moderateleft.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/gsy.jpg\" alt=\"gsy.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As is obvious, the print is an update of a 1960\u2019s Joan Baez anti-war poster, but the theme predates <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lysistrata\"><em>Lysistrata<\/em><\/a><em>, <\/em>which is itself 2397 years old.<\/p>\n<p>Berman has a collection of quotes from smarter people than me explaining why this is full of fail (including my favorite, from Kate Harding, who in noting that the poster is anti-woman also notes that, \u201cif they had to do it anyway, \u2018Girls say \u201cYes, we can\u201d to boys who vote Obama\u2019 would have been funnier.\u201d)<\/p>\n<p>The ad\u2019s problematic, because it\u2019s clearly reducing women\u2019s ability to convince men to their facility with what\u2019s between their legs, not what\u2019s between their ears. A reasoned explanation of why Johnny Maverick would be a disaster for women? Men won\u2019t listen to something like that, especially from a girl. But a blow job might get you your way, sweet cheeks. As such, it devalues women. This much is obvious.<\/p>\n<p>But it also devalues men, as these things often do. After all, the ad implies that men would put their views of what\u2019s good for the country second behind the prospect of sex. They won\u2019t be persuaded by discussion or thoughtful consideration of ideas, but they\u2019ll be more than willing to vote for a candidate they disagree with if they can just get a bit of nookie, because really, that\u2019s all men care about anyhow.<\/p>\n<p>Just as the poster reduces women to a form of currency, it reduces men to easily bribed fools. And this is from liberal women.
