As you can see, we&#8217;ve already had greater job loss this recession than we did in either the 2007 or the 2001 recessions; you have to go back to 1981 for a recession that was worse than this one. And this recession hasn&#8217;t even reached its nadir yet.<\/p>\n<p>(There&#8217;s an even <a href=\"http:\/\/yglesias.thinkprogress.org\/archives\/2009\/02\/understanding_the_paradox_of_thrift.php\">scarier looking graph<\/a> floating around, but the graph you see above is more accurate because it&#8217;s measuring by percentage, rather than absolute numbers that haven&#8217;t been adjusted for the growing population.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In another thread, Ron said &#8220;this recession is actually less severe than either of the last two in terms of the percentage of people out of work.&#8221; I think Ron&#8217;s understating the severity of the current situation.
