Given the sea of polls showing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.duluthsuperior.com\/mld\/duluthsuperior\/news\/8374062.htm\">clear-cut<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mansfieldnewsjournal.com\/news\/updates\/5402.html\">opposition<\/a> to gay marriage, it&#8217;s refreshing to see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wfsb.com\/Global\/story.asp?S=1765766\">this one<\/a>, conducted by the University of Connecticut (frankly, I&#8217;m a bit suprised that anyone at UCONN has been paying attention to anything other than basketball).<\/p>\n<div class=\"snip\">Seventy-four percent of those asked say they support the idea of a law to allow same-sex couples to legally form civil unions.<\/p>\n<p>However, when asked about gay marriages, 49 percent support the idea while 46 percent are opposed.<\/p>\n<p>Fifty-three percent oppose passing a law to define marriage as being between a man and woman.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I suspect they wouldn&#8217;t have found that much support for gay marriage had they conducted the same poll a year ago.
