The push-poll phone call I discussed earlier came from FEC Research – The One True B!X has more information about FEC Research, which seems like a pretty sleazy outfit, and links to other folks who received the call. Check it out.
ACTIONS: Why not call the Yes on 36 campaign – 1 (877) 203-9595 – and let them know what you think of their bigoted little push polling campaign? Even if it does nothing else, it’ll take up a little of their time. It’s a free call (well, free to you, not to them), so call even if you live far, far away from Oregon. Heck, call them frequently. Call just to chat. Call from Europe.
But if you do call them, be polite. I’m not saying this because I’m a prude (although I am) – I’m saying this because if the “yes on 36” campaign receives a lot of abusive or threatening calls, that could help them, if they can get the press to write about it. Just politely tell them that campaign calls pretending to be neutral polls, and appealing to bigoted stereotypes, are unethical and make all of us worse off.
Even better, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take out your credit card and contribute to the no on 36 campaign. Oregon is the only state besides Massachusetts where the good guys have a real shot at fighting off the anti-marriage-equality campaign. If you can afford to give even $10, then it’s worth your time to contribute, and it helps keep ads like this one on TV.
i called, i was very polite. The woman on the other line sounds like she got a few other calls, she quickly let me know that she was just a message service (it is late :). I asked her politely to leave a message that the fear-mongering push poll regarding ‘homosexuality in the schools’ was cruel and unappreciated.
And, we donated another round of money to Oregon No on 36 campaign (and a couple other states that have some possibility).
We are tapped out now financially, but we are considering helping with a get out the vote drive the last weekend before the election.
I made a contribution too. Thanks for the link!
My home has received three of the (571) 522-1899 automated calls. Due to being on the DO NOT CALL list, I should not have received them here in Massachusetts. (see FCC Telemarketing Fact Sheet). I recommend that everyone email a complaint about this type of call to the FCC at fccinfo@fcc.gov. The more complaints the better. Maybe ccAdvertising will get cited. Please use the Fact Sheet to frame your complaint. We need to end ALL automated voice to residential phones. Enough complaints about one abuser should eliminate the loop hole for the others.
Request the FCC to have ccAdvertising abide by the DO NOT CALL list, and remove any number from their dialer that hangs up on it. There should NEVER be a second or third or more call from one of these machines.
Steve
Gay marriage is wrong… I think that it is good that someone is getting the message out there. That way if a kid picks up the phone, they can tell there parents where they stand on the issue too. That way not everything is controlled by MTV.
OH, and steve…quit your whining. do not call lists dont apply to certain businesses… sez so in some law
Ah, yes. MTV bastion of liberal political influence. Did you see how they fomented the voter rebellion that swept the Medieval warlor, uh, er, the Republicans out of government. That was sweet.
