Y’all remember how this works, right?

Man Dies Of Toothache. “A no-longer-living, no-longer-breathing example of the ‘push the patient to the edge of financial desperation’ theory of health care cost controls. It turns out that the quality of a frightened, pain-wracked young man asked to make technical medical decisions under severe financial constraints is not very high. The social cost of 24 year-old fathers dying of eminently treatable tooth infections, by contrast, is gigantic.”

Martin Luther King, Jr.’s sexist, offensive advice to women is a good example of how much feminism has accomplished.

Did the White House double-cross its supporters on the smog rule? Short answer: Yes, it really did. Obama is such a fucktard asshat. Read more here.

This webcomic (which only takes a minute or two to read) scared the crap out of me. Seriously, you’ve been warned. Don’t worry if you don’t read Korean, it’s still good.

I object to the use of the word “fucktard.”

Also, HOLY CRAP on that Korean webcomic.

-Whenever I remember that I have a heart jerking and thrashing like that inside me I feel a little bit horrified. It just seems wrong.

-I feel like I’m missing a lot in that comic due to not reading Korean.

    -I also object to “fucktard”.

The title of one of these links could just as easily be “Florida Republican Fights To Repeal Law Against Cohabitation”. The sponsor of the repeal is Republican, and, in the article, there was stated opposition from only one Republican (the rest of the opposition from Republicans is simply assumed, because Republicans are assumed to be against things like this).

Sorry about the word “fucktard”; I’ve edited the post.

I know you warned against reading the comments following “Fat Is A Masculinist Issue,” but the first one lured me in. I’m sympathetic to a commenter who tries to accept other people’s bodies and thinks it’s “weird” for him to feel icky and self-hating about his own. I skimmed down the comments to see others offering support, telling him it wasn’t weird–lots of people felt that way when they tried to reject the body shame of the surrounding culture.

The irritating thing about the conversation. what made it so frustrating I threw up my hands and backed away, looked like a very deeply embedded false belief. They seem to take it for granted that there is an organized “Feminist Fat Acceptance Movement” with clearly defined beliefs, and leaders who can speak for it like the Pope speaks for the Catholics. (An outsider can reasonably say, “Yeah, I agree with you. I still think the Catholics are completely wrong about this.” Even when talking to an individual Catholic who disagrees with the Pope.)

There is no Cabal of Feminist Fat Acceptance Movement leaders who define what the rest of us believe about the subject. There are just a bunch of feminists who care about fat acceptance, agreeing on some issues and disagreeing on others. This doesn’t seem to have occurred to the commenters at Strictly Moderated.

Are any left wing cartoonists using the perfectly dieted and exercised body as a symbol of wealth?

Nancy, not that I’ve seen, although that would be an interesting approach to take.

I literally screamed and ran from my computer at that $@%! webcomic before dissolving into embarrassed laughter. I do not consider myself adequately warned!

I love this statement from Ten Things Everyone Should Know About Time:

Intuitively we think that the “now” is real, while the past is fixed and in the books, and the future hasn’t yet occurred. But physics teaches us something remarkable: every event in the past and future is implicit in the current moment.

I’ll be thinking about that for a while.
