Hereville fan art by Emma T. Capps!

Check out this drawing of Mirka by the fabulous, 14 year old Emma T. Capps. Emma does the comic strip Chapel Chronicles; there’s an article about her here.

(Click on the drawing to see it full sized!)

On her tumblr, Emma writes:

Mirka’s a fantastic character and it was so fun to draw her in my style. Also from now on I should just have all my characters dress this way (besides Chapel). LONG SKIRTS AND LONG SLEEVES COVER UP ALL ANATOMY SINS, I tell you!

She’s on to my secret. :-p

She also writes that Hereville “reads kind of like a Miyazaki movie, if Miyazaki was Jewish and had Terry Pratchett’s sense of humor.” I have yet to get into Pratchett (I’m sure I will someday), but I’m a huge Miyazaki fan, so I consider that a very high compliment.

Thanks, Emma!

    Fix this. NOW.

You’re not into Pratchett? For a man of your age, tastes, and cultural background that is akin to being a lifetime New Yorker who says “The Yankees? Is that like a sports team?”

Start with the witches books; those are both the most accessible and (IMHO) the ones that have the most to say. “Wyrd Sisters” is a good one to start with, but (although there is a chronology) you won’t lose much by just picking one at random. If you prefer character-study mysteries, the Night Watch series is also good, and has been more extensively developed. Chronology is a bit more important too, and I would say start with “Guards, Guards!”

Read these books within the next week or I will have to come over there and take away your Nerd Card. You don’t want to lose the discount on D&D miniatures, so best get a-readin’.

I just read Hereville and I am now obsessively recommending it to all my friends. Just so you know. Are there going to be more? Please tell me there will be more! I super want to know what the deal with Fruma and the witch is.

Also, that fan illustration is adorable.

Shoshie, thank you so much! And you’ll be happy to know, Abrams has signed me up for two more Hereville books. :-)

Yay! Draw faster! Seriously, is there anything we can do to facilitate the books getting drawn, i.e. are you looking for donations?

    Ampersand says:

Thanks, but no, I’m not looking for donations. I’m afraid that I just work slow. :-p

You will like Pratchett. That is all.

Okay, also, love the fan art, and especially like that you’re giving fan art a thumbs-up, rather than siccing lawyers. This is as it should be.
