Welcome to my new collaborator Tina Kim!

So here’s a big change for Hereville book 2: a new collaborator! Cartoonist Tina Kim has joined what must now be called the Hereville team and will be drawing environments (aka backgrounds) on about a third of the pages. (I’ll be drawing the backgrounds on the remaining pages).

Before I began Hereville, I had always worked alone (other than some collaborative comics done in high school). What I’ve found, working with Jake (who provides Hereville’s distinct colors) and now Tina, is the wonderful thrill of being surprised by how great their work is, most of all when they approach a problem or a scene in a way I wouldn’t have thought of myself.

Here’s a sample of Tina’s Hereville work. Thanks, Tina!

Hey Tina Kim — Thanks for your contribution! Love your stuff — as far as I can tell.

Ok, ’nuff of that. What’s this about a monster-fighting contest?

Beautiful work! Were I not shortly to be once more among the underemployed, I would surely be placing a pre-order. When I no longer number among the nearly numberless, I surely will, though it’s likely not to be a pre-order by then.

Hi Amp. It’s lightly from the old Ms. boards. I’ve got Hereville bookmarked to buy as soon as I scrape together a few pennies. Just love the work you are doing.

One of the things I’ve been enjoying lately a my lovely little side job is seeing the way other people do the same job. No two people organize it the same way, but each person’s different way of doing it is unexpected and fascinating.

I’m sure it’s even more interesting when you are doing challenging, complicated, creative work like you and the Hereville team are doing.

Nobody.Really: Capitalist Pig Barry says, You’ll have to read the book to find out!

(Socialist Tool Barry says, but you can always borrow a copy from your local public library.)

Caitiecat, thank you! And I hope you find a job you like soon. But in the meanwhile, if you want to read Hereville 2 when it comes out, you can always get it from the library. (If your library doesn’t have a copy, and you ask them to buy one, that does me just as much good as if you’d bought a copy yourself — and it’s free to you).

Hi, Lightly! It’s neat to hear from someone from the Ms Boards. (Speaking of the Ms Boards, I just saw Copybabe last week! She seemed really well – she came over to our July 4th BBQ, and brought her adorable toddler with her.)

And yeah, I agree — that is maybe the neatest thing about collaboration.
