Heh. Though I heard the actor who played her wanted to leave the show. Too bad–her charecter really grew on me. Goddammit.

I like Michele Rodriguez a lot. I’m glad she’s in the cast. She’s already spitting drywall screws at everyone. Good. That show will only benefit from having her in the cast.

Me too, although Shannon never did much for me either. She’ll be replaced, I suppose, by Michelle Rodriquez, whose character needs better dialogue than a thousand variations on “Let’s place the value of our lives these other peoples.”
The treatment of gender on LOST is…troubling, although I suppose it’s no better or worse than in the usual way of primetime shows. This latest twist doesn’t help matters much.
Anyone else miffed that they are now going to go back and start over with the 2nd group of suvivors? What about plot advancement! Argh!!

I don’t think there is any ‘gender’ issue here really. The actress wanted to go its not they chose to get rid of a female protagonist.
and as said above, they added another in the way of Michelle Rodriquez , her character isn’t too ‘deep’ yet.. but maybe the extended episode will deepen the character a bit.
There isn’t exact gender balance in that show (ok, so it’s 5/9.. or 6/10 or 6/11 depending on who is considered main cast not so great), but they do have a good number of diverse female leads. I like Sun and Kate for different reasons, and i have reason to suspect Libby is going to get a bigger role in later episodes.
Ok first of all let me say thank the lord of the island that someone is finally getting some good sex on the island. On the other hand it was extremely corny the way that shannon died. I missed the first couple of episodes from season 2 so can anyone fill me in on what happened to Kate or John? What else did I miss?
I didn’t like Shannon and so if it was btwn her and the other women, then getting rid of her is fine with me. Not too keen on Kate but I like Sun.

sawyers cool. i like him. hes, yes, eye candy, but he has much more depth than most of the characters. i cant stand jack, for instance. just goes around telling people what to do and deciding who gets to know about things. i hated the way the lost writers treated claires pregnancy and birth, all of jacks “shes n danger without a hospital” rubbish, and the actual labour episode where they cut between her labour (accompanied by horror movie music) and boone dying(note – no scary music). and the way that everyone assumes jack is an authority just coz hes a doctor, even though he does bugger all except panic. and he was part of the whole torture-sawyer thing – that guy is just fucking sinister in my book. sawyers troubled, but he isnt sinister. oh – apart from the whole tricking kate into kissing him thing- i had forgotten about that until just now.
and i liked shannon, tons. its crappy that she has gone. i thought she was gonna become much more of a natural leader, rather than simply an assumed authority, on the island. i think sun will be too. she clearly is much more use in a crisis than jack. and i reckon ana is well cool, and incredibly fit to boot. i loved the actress in res evil, shes like a modern day vasquez and deeply cool and sexy.
You all are idiots. The show and cast are the best tv has ever seen. Quit criticizing and enjoy the show.
episode? I watched tonight (nov 16) and it was only an hour long!
