"I like my A's."

Since you guys liked Natalie’s rant on racism here is her rant on sexism due to the fact that she was considered by G4 tv as one of the “hot women on the web.”

Also, here is the G4 video she’s talking about; it’s pretty bad, beware.

That seems less like a rant against sexism, and more like a rant about Maxim models, who are in fact also human.
I agree that lists like that are patronizing, but not at all for the reason she said.

I think it’s hilarious. Her point is that she has serious issues that she is concerned about and along comes a cheesecake mag to trivialize her. As in “Hey guys, she may talk a lot, but just tune her out and gaze on her hotness.” I’d be pissed, too.

Although she’s funny, I have to agree with Ali; if her intent was to object to the sexism, then I don’t think she got her point across.

I agree with Ali and Amp as well. However, to a certain extent I do think she got her point across, to a certain extent. I decided to post it despite my reservations just to create a discussion of the amusing (and flawed) vlog.

My interpretation to her talk of Maxim models seems to stem from the fact that essentially Maxim models “aren’t ‘human'” to the extent that they are highly airbrushed, with some type of cosmetic surgery (for some), selected by males to be the pinnacles that all women should strive to achieve, and that their beauty is in reality essentially the creation of the white Western mind of what beauty should be and hence show us the insane unreality we live in as Americans in constantly plastering pictures of women whom only represent .1% of the population all over our media saturated landscape.

She seemed very pissed off to the condescending fact that she was only included in the “countdown” due to the fact of her attractiveness and not due to her witty intellect. Indeed Maxim models are humans and are exploited due to the fact that the male dominated media essentially “creates” them and “turns them” into unattainable commodities strictly for male “consumption.”

Of course, she doesn’t get into all that she just rants out her frustrations into a thesis that kinda makes sense and in one way is a critique but not in the sense many of us think one would be.

Props to Ali though for the comment.

Thanks for hearing me Jack. I was right there with Natalie until she started wailing on the models… and pretty much only on the models. While I could kind of gather the point I thought she was trying to make (being compared to airbrushed, surgically enhanched people who are essentially paid to look hot), to me it just felt like turning around and beating up on the next group of people after you’ve just been beat up yourself. If that makes any sense :)
