Persian Arts Festival's Shab-e She'r Written Up on America.gov

Check it out: In a New York Bar, a Place for New Persian Poetry. Jeff Baron does a good job overall, though I think he makes me sound dismissive and trivializing about the traditional Shab-e She’r in the way that he quoted me in the first paragraph. I was also pleased to see the related articles that came up on the site; it looks like American.gov is doing a decent job of not demonizing Iran or Iranians. Actually, now that I think of it, I suppose I shouldn’t be snarky about it: It looks like they are doing a good job of humanizing Iran and Iranians, which is a pleasant change of pace.

  1. Robert says:

It didn’t read as dismissive to me – more, “this is what the traditional reading is like”, as a contrast to the reading the story was about.

  2. That’s good. Thanks. Maybe I am just too self-conscious.
