Two great long-form political cartoons

I really like long-form political cartoons, which we don’t see much of, I think because it’s hard to find a market to sell them to.

But here are two great ones I came across this week: “Straw Feminists In The Closet,” by Kate Beaton, and “Supply Side Jesus,” by Al Franken (presumably before he became a senator) and Don Simpson.

haha, I hadn’t seen Supply Side Jesus before… that’s great. He looks a little bit like Guybrush Threepwood!

Incidentally, the name of the Straw Feminists author is Kate Beaton, instead of Beacon.

    Thanks! Typo corrected.

Kate Beaton is awesome incarnate. Thanks!

I think Supply Side Jesus was from Lies: and the Lying Liars who tell them.

“Hark, A Vagrant” has been a favorite cartoon of mine for awhile, even though I sometimes have to scurry off to look up the historical references.

But “Supply-Side Jesus” is a classic that’s worth bookmarking and referencing over and over in almost any discussion of modern U.S. Christianity. The contrast between the Jesus portrayed in the Bible and the “Jeezus” that right-wing Wal-Mart Christians worship is striking.

Supply side Jesus :D Was that inspired by Andy Schlafly’s Conservative Bible rewriting (oh sorry, re-TRANSLATING) project, I wonder?
