Harry Potter and the Hogwarts Dance Team
Matt introduced the Hogwarts Dance Team to me by saying, “I’m not someone who uses ‘gay’ as an adjective. But this is the gayest thing I’ve ever seen.” It’s awesome – well worth the download time.

“The Aristocrats” as Bob Newhart would perform it
If you’ve never heard recordings of Bob Newhart’s old stand-up comedy, you’ve missed some great stuff. I’m not sure how funny this will be if you haven’t heard Newhart’s stand-up, but if you have heard it this is very giggleworthy.

“He Is The Box”
Law professor Ann Althouse blogs:

“He is the box.” Said by me in a discussion just now with a colleague. Topic: how Harriet Miers will behave if she gets to the Supreme Court. The “he” is Justice Scalia.

Her readers respond in comments by suggesting a number of increasingly ridiculous contexts in which Ann might have said “He is the box.” They also suggest a number of songs, for some reason. Probably the most fun I’ve ever had reading the comments on a law professor’s blog.

Upcoming News
A very funny (or horrifying) prediction of what the newspapers will be saying when Alan Greenspan’s replacement is named.

The Convertible Armchair / Stovetop
Vestal Design presents this very neat spacesaving solution. Because “you’ll never sit and cook at the same time.” (Hat tip: Boing Boing.)

The Far Side Lives On
As Chris Bertram points out, this quote – from a perfectly serious book about “alternative country music” – would make a fine caption for a Far Side cartoon.

Lazily labelled as “folk rock” during their ten-year career together, Richard and Linda were as attuned to Americana as anyone living in a Sufi commune in rural Norfolk could ever hope to be.

Aw, crap. I really wanted to see that Harry Potter movie, but I have a Mac. I’ll have to steal the Count’s pc away from him, but he’s playing World of Warcraft. It’ll be a hard sell. ;)

  2. Thanks for improving the end of a hard day. Newhart’s “The Aristocrats” is really fabulous!

  3. Tapetum says:

Thanks awfully, now I’ve got the tunes from “Footloose” stuck in my head.

  4. Auguste says:

The Newhart thing is an alltime classic.

  5. Josh Jasper says:

Nah, it’ll be Ken Lay as chairman of the Fed.

I want a double-spaced kitchenette!!! We have very little room around here, and that would fit perfectly. Plus, what a great conversation piece.

Can you turn the stove tops on and heat the seat while you’re sitting in it?

    I bet it’s Swedish… ;)

this is only tangentially related, but did anyone else notice that the first half of ‘the aristocrats’ (the actual movie) was all about women getting fucked and shit on? i didn’t think i was easily offended, but after half an hour or more of the father doing the fucking and shitting, and the mother/wife/daughter being on the receiving end, i got annoyed. the movie was saved, part-way through, by a woman pointing out that women’s versions were different than men’s, but i still couldn’t help feeling dismayed that all those men (men who are famous, and representative of popular culture) thought it was so transgressive for women to be shit on. that stuff happens every day. maybe if the woman was doing the fucking, or the guy was getting it from another man… the women’s and gay guys’ versions were more equal-opportunity offensive.
i saw 3 movies in the last couple weeks (also ‘corpse bride’ and ‘broken flowers’), and was annoyed by the roles of females in all of them, i suppose partially because the people i was with didn’t seem to notice at all, and i like to think my friends are aware of that stuff. i also just wasn’t expecting it from these particular movies.
