Well, I sort of drew Wonder Woman. The drawing has a Wonder Woman theme, anyhow.
Wonder Woman Day III, a auction of Wonder Woman drawings by various cartoonists, is on! You can bid (via a silent auction) over email for the drawings; the money will be donated to two shelters for abused women, Raphael House of Portland and Bradley-Angle House, and also to the Portland Womens Crisis Line.
I have a piece for sale, and if nobody bids on it, that will be pretty humiliating. I’m just saying. Hint. Hint.
The piece itself is pretty large — 12″ by 16″, on a 13″ x 19″ piece of paper. Elements of Wonder Woman’s costume and possessions, as well as lyrics from the TV show title music, are tattooed on the figure. And it’s signed, of course.
And you can own it for a song!
Well, a song, plus $20 shipping. But it’s for a good cause!
You can see the many other Wonder Woman drawings on sale here, including drawings from Jamie Hernandez, Gilbert Hernandez, Dylan Meconis, Wendy Pini, Scott Morse, and many, many others. And for instructions on how to bid, go here.
This is awesome.
I love this drawing! Makes me proud to be fat, eyeglass wearing and resemble Gertrude Stein. You rule.
Thank you both! :-)
What a great take on Wonder Woman! Yours definitely stands out from the pack! Great work.
Amp, I have been reading this blog for a long time, both for the politics and the cartooning, but it was the cartooning that has inspired me to comment for the first time ever:
This Wonder Woman drawing is huge pile of awesome, topped with awesome sauce, and served with a side of awesome fries. To paraphrase Zaphod Beeblebrox, it is not just amazing, it is amazingly amazing. I love it.
The above drawing is just about the only drawing of Wonder Woman that will be offered for sale that does NOT depict her with an emphasis on the exaggerated breasts and hips of your typical female super-hero in general and the canonic Wonder Woman character in particular. I do realize that at this point that’s an inescapable part of Wonder Woman, but I wonder whether you see a confict there in celebrating the character?
Having said that – great drawing! I have to say my initial impression is someone sitting on the floor of a subway station with her back up against the tile wall and a cup of wine next to her. Am I way off base here?
I’m assuming that this IS Wonder Woman and not a fan or someone channeling her or something.
Wow, Barry! That came out beautifully.
This is beautiful. I love the boots peeking out of her sneakers!
