Post request: could someone who has been following the MN Senate election and recount go through this WSJ editorial and explain what is fact, what is opinion, and what is on the level of the WSJ’s classic “isn’t it suspicious that so many people have died around Bill Clinton?” (MN recount edition: “isn’t it suspicious that most of the canvassing board’s decisions help Franken?”).
I’ve already seen the editorial on a Republican acquaintance’s Facebook feed and had it quoted to me by another conservative friend. And yes, I am too lazy to come up with my own rebuttals in fact-intensive arguments I haven’t been following closely.

I believe the short answer is, “No, because the canvassing board does not lean Democratic, and may actually lean Republican, yet their decisions have been largely unanimous. This indicates to me that they were likely good decisions based on the law, rather than based on helping Franken.”

Well… I would certainly be more inclined to politically link myself with a man of taste than a man of no or bad taste.
One can forgive a lack of wealth. One can never forgive a lack of taste.

I don’t think my politics have much to do with good taste. Taste is almost entirely an aesthetic concept, not a political one. After all, some of my political allies will respond to attempts to constrain women’s reproductive freedom with pictures of wire hangers, which is not precisely in good taste. Nor is sitting in an establishment where you are unwelcome — but I admire the civil disobedience of African Americans demanding an end to Jim Crow. (At the time of the sit-ins, my alma mater’s newspaper editorial board stated that the bad taste of going where one was unwanted was a good reason to oppose sit-ins.) If I cared about good taste in politics, I’d probably be a latter-day William F. Buckley.
Defiance of despotic authority and racism is ALWAYS in good taste.
Anyone who disagrees suffers from bad taste. :)

See, I think that picking “Under My Thumb” as your parody song takes it to another level. Yes, Franken has had some misogyny issues in his past, which is a reason I wasn’t an enthusiastic backer of him (I voted for him, and am glad he won, but I wasn’t a big supporter). But I don’t see this as one of them.
