Somehow "regrets the error" seems a bit tame

Julian points out this correction, which will run in tomorrow’s New York Times:

Yesterday, the Times identified a man on page A21 as a Ku Klux Klan member found guilty of murdering a black sharecropper. Actually, the man was Pete Coors, head of Coors Brewing Company, and a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate. Coors is not in the Ku Klux Klan, and did not murder a black sharecropper. The Times regrets the error.

Hee hee..

    Good grief! Error, indeed!

    Dear Sir
I am here to inform you that your stance on abortion is not in alianment with christian or catholic beliefs. Abortion is murder ! Please take a look at your grandchildren and wonder what it would be like if they were’nt there. Also, the mental damage to the mothers is everlasting. If I were to plant a sunflower seed in a dixie cup and when it started to sprout, then decited to pull it out, wouldn’t you agree that I killed it? A fetus is a living being with a soul..

What the…!? Are they sending out anti-choice posting robots now!?

  4. Raznor says:

Congratulations cth. You have officially convinced me that a living fetus is equivalent to a sunflower seed.

  5. James D says:

    That was kinda weird.

Through the first few sentences of cth’s comment, I thought it was a spoof on the “regret the error” thing. Maybe it was a joke that was so subtle we aren’t getting it? If not, I’m even more sad for humanity.

What was truly egregious, however, was the Coors media spokesperson response. She said that they all had a good laugh and said that at least they hadn’t identified him as John Kerry. Excuse me, what sort of candidate thinks being identified as a murdering Klan member is preferable to being identified as a Democrat?

It says something about Coors that his MEDIA SPOKESPERSON — someone who is supposed to represent his viewss — thinks a KKK murderer is a better person than a Democratic candidate for President.
