It’s paradoxical, but the more flexible you are and the more you allow for your identity to not be fixed, the more stable and unshakable you are. It’s scary because we are used to having firm and solid definitions of everything. And society’s rules are not made to accommodate a lot of “I don’t know”. Nevertheless. The ultimate tool you always have at your disposal is telling your own complete truth, and sometimes that truth is “I don’t know”, or “I don’t relate to that question” or “I’m not sure what that word means” or “I don’t remember ever feeling that way” or “I have mixed feelings about that”. Just be as truthful as you can – and speak from your own authority, from what you really, really know to be true for yourself. But the more you try to present yourself to people using external labels of identity, the easier it is for them to dispute that.

I’m sorry to say, I would be the asshole with a woody constantly struggling against his own libido in Cuddle World.
On “Cuddle World” (I’m writing here rather than there because that post is several months old), it occurs to me that this is what, I think, TheFerrett would have been aiming for, if he hadn’t been such a choad. I’m not sure how much would be left of him if you subtracted the choadery, but it sounds like this was what he was purportedly seeking.
Of course, I’m sure he would have started humping and groping everyone in sight, but it’s still sad that the standard background level of being a privileged ass means that women are by default nervous and standoffish about touching. It’s just sensible, given what they have to work with.

Would someone here be so kind as to give me some advice on how to explain to a certain thick-skulled someone exactly how he’s being an asshole, in terms even a 5-year-old could understand?
Doug S., Robin Hanson is being, pardon my overuse of the word, a choad. This is not new. (He asks why we have food stampts but not sex stamps, and refuses to understand that (a) socializing some proportion of food production is in no way morally comparable to giving out rape coupons, and (b) ethically, we try to benefit people, not genes.) More here. As I put it here, if your program of reasoned self-improvement toward rationalism leads you to propose rape coupons, there may be a flaw in your program of reasoned self-improvement toward rationalism.
Hell, he’s recently given credence to the idea that cuckoldry is morally equivalent to rape, approvingly quoting a poll by Roissy, of all people. The man’s gone full choad; I can’t imagine why anyone would be surprised. (Self-promoting a bit, note my comment on that article (search in-page for my name) pointing out that if it weren’t for the gendered aspects of the question, nobody would be making that equivalence.) If he’s so blinded by his choadery that he’s making logical errors this stupid, then perhaps it’s time to give up on the idea that reason will reach him.
