To be blunt…I love rock music. Rock is portrayed as pretty darn white and male. Hence the inspiration for this post. Lot of featured artistes located via this discussion at Quirky Black Girl which also has some gorgeous MP3’s in the thread.     Shit yes, the BellRays are fucking awesome. Love her voice so damn much.

    And Skunk Anansie reformed! Always been one of my favourite bands.

    I haven’t heard most of these bands though, I’m going to have a fun day of finding exciting new music.

    Wow – this is cool!

    I remember the first time I saw Jada Pinkett Smith rock out. It was on Letterman. When he announced her, I expected R&B or a ballad, given her connection to husband Will Smith, and that she is a gorgeous Hollywood celebrity. But she rawked as hard and as raw as Rage Against the Machine or Living Color — a comparison I make not because they are also multi-racial or black bands, but because they set the bar for “hard” and “raw.” Certainly more so than most of the white male bands whining their way through the radio rotation lists.

    BTW – Living Color still don’t get the airplay they deserve.

    Thanks for this great post, aside from Skunk Anansie, the Noisettes and Betty Davis, I haven’t heard of any of these artists before. So much lovely new music to delve into!!
