Why do right-wingers think criticism is censorship?
I really intended to post on “Alas” today, but I got distracted into posting comments on this Family Scholars Blog thread instead. What’s at issue there is the argument that we shouldn’t have marriage equality because that might lead to … Continue reading
When it comes to reproduction, men and women really ARE different
Hugo is going to be appearing on Glenn Sacks’ show again, this time to debate “choice for men.” I was rereading my old posts on the subject (if you’re curious, they are here, here, here and here), and I came … Continue reading
Oppressed by the Vagina Monologues
Via Redneck Feminist, an amusing article in Reason considers the right-wing horror of Eve Ensler’s much-criticized play. Meet the put-upon conservative coed, the prototype pushed by conservative feminists to demonstrate liberal bias on college campuses. We’ll call her Claire. Claire … Continue reading
My brief appearance on "His Side with Glenn Sacks"
I called in to “His Side with Glenn Sacks” this past Sunday. The guest on the show was Hugo Schwyzer, who has posted about the show a few times since Sunday. Anyhow, I’m too lazy to transcribe the entire show, … Continue reading

The origins and definitions of "gender feminism" and "equity feminism"
Ignoring the incoherence for a while, the two key differences in Hoff Sommers formulation seem to be that “gender feminists” believe that sexism against women is a widespread problem, found in virtually all our society’s institutions. In contrast, “equity feminists” apparently think that feminism’s only proper concern is legal equality – a goal that has been, to a significant extent, achieved in the USA – and there is absolutely no cultural or systemic bias against women. The 1 in 4 distortion: Where did it come from?
A while ago, I was on some anti-feminist website debating rape prevalence statistics, and of course the “1 in 4” figure came up. If you’re a feminist, you may not be familiar with the figure; but among anti-feminists, the “1 … Continue reading
